Tips and Variations for Faux Frame ...

Hi lovely peeps, Karen P here to talk and share with you today.  We are one week into our FAUX FRAME challenge and I'm here today to share some tips and variations to this super fun and easy technique.  So let’s get started, shall we?

Katy D  says …
1. You can use your Cricut to make the die cuts and frames.  The George cartridge has shapes and the silhouette feature will make a frame for the corresponding shape.

Karen H says …
1. Wanted to stress what Katy says about using the Cricut as she does not have nesting dies.  Karen used the Elegant Edges cartridge and it worked wonderfully for her.
2. Use a gentle touch when sponging and start very light.  You want to make sure to have it a little darker closer to the edge of the frame to create depth.

Julz says ...
1.     Experiment with different sizes of die cuts or vary the frame itself so that the edges are not even on all sides.
2.     Twist the inner frame by tilting the inner piece so that it is off centre.
3.     Use multiple ink colours whilst colouring for a fun twist.
4.     Use two random shapes, e.g. a circle and an oval, that will fit inside one another

Mynnette says …
1.     Try using different colours of inks to create a sky effect, e.g. blue for a sky, or other hazy effect.
2.     Using thinner paper as a mask will help when you stamp in your frame.

Ellen says …
1.     To make a thinner frame just leave the die cut in the die and add colour.  Remove the die and you have a die cut with a thin frame.  For this variation there is no need to cut out a mask because the die serves as the mask.

Karen P says …
1.     Do not use card to make your mask because you won’t get a good effect once the ink has been added – ask me how I know this, lol.
2.     If you do use your die as a mask, as Ellen suggests, make sure you clean your die immediately, again ask me how I know lol.

Here is a card I have made with the tips and variations …
